Chronic Stress and Pain Clinic - Ottawa

Welcome to CSAP Clinic!
We are happy that your search for a better quality of life has led you here.

While many people are referred to the Chronic Stress and Pain Clinic, some have sought out a chronic stress treatment centre or chronic pain management clinic in Ottawa. Whether you simply wish to counter chronic stress and enhance your health, or whether you seek relief from a painful or serious condition, we believe that we can help.

It starts with the realization that under the right conditions, the human body was fundamentally designed to be healthy. Additionally, your body has a remarkable ability to heal itself given the right conditions. Sadly, many individuals today are experiencing the negative effects of prolonged exposure to low-level stress. While others are suffering from pain and other symptoms as a result of an injury, a condition or disease.

We are proud to be a part of a new movement in Canada that is dedicated to addressing the cause and symptoms of both chronic stress and pain. Chronic stress and chronic pain are so often interrelated because regardless of the cause or severity of a condition, the body’s stress and pain response is rooted in the nervous system.
Our advanced therapy clinically enhances feelings of relaxation (FDA-authorized claim) by targeting body systems to help balance the patient’s nervous system and increase the body’s self-healing capabilities.
Regardless of what treatments you may have tried in the past, we are confident you will see measurable improvements with our advanced therapy. Apart from feeling the positive effects from your very first session, you can view the effects on body systems through our real-time tracking of critical biomarkers.

Chronic Stress

Chronic stress, which is continuous low-level stress endured over an extended period of time, can become overwhelming and debilitating.

Chronic stress can result from prolonged exposure to emotional, physical, chemical or environmental stressors. Over time, these stressors can inhibit the autonomic nervous system (ANS) from regularly activating the body's relaxation response which is critical to healing and to the optimal functioning of body systems. This can lead to relatively mild symptoms commonly termed adrenal fatigue or it can progress to chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) or adrenal insufficiency. Although chronic stress affects each individual differently, common chronic stress symptoms may also include:
Poor sleep
Insomnia
Muscle stiffness
Inflammation
Poor circulation
Allergies
Anxiety
Depression
High blood pressure
Cardiac irregularities
Gastrointestinal issues
Generalized fatigue
Decreased energy
Trouble concentrating
Frequent illness or infections
Weakened immune system

Pain / Chronic pain

Apart from acute pain related to a recent injury or condition, pain should not be considered a normal state, nor a part of the aging process.

Unfortunately, some people suffer from chronic pain even after an injury has healed, or when no abnormal condition has been detected. In other cases, pain is linked to various conditions that may include:

Headache, migraine and concussion
Back and neck pain
Sciatic nerve pain (sciatica)
Tendon and ligament trauma
Sprains and fractures
Cancer
Muscular skeletal conditions
(e.g Osteoarthritis and Osteoporosis)
Autoimmune and neurological diseases (e.g. Parkinson's and Multiple Sclerosis)
Neuropathic pain (neuropathy, nerve pain)
Nervous system disorders/diseases
(e.g. Fibromyalgia and ALS)

The Critical Link

There is often a strong link between chronic stress and pain.

Pain, and the underlying condition causing the pain, if prolonged, can throw the body’s crucial autonomic nervous system into a sympathetic ("fight or flight") chronic stress state. Conversely. chronic stress can trigger nerve pain receptors directly, or cause inflammation and other conditions which may lead to pain. Further, chronic stress is known to be a factor in disease causation; and it can exacerbate pain and other symptoms among individuals who are sick or living with a condition or disease.
